We get asked all of the time, “When should I book my wedding cake?”. The simple answer is: three to six months before your wedding date. There are, however, some exceptions. If your wedding date is over a holiday weekend (Memorial Day weekend, for example) we would recommend booking at least six months in advance. We will book wedding cakes up to one year before the wedding date, but not further out than that. Distance plays a role, too. If your reception site is more than 45 minutes from our bakery, you should also book at least six months ahead of time. Our limitations for making wedding cakes on a particular weekend have more to do with how far-afield we are than the amount of cakes we make. So, if you are located in the far western suburbs, Indiana, or downtown Chicago – you should come in for a wedding cake appointment with us sooner than later. Right now, we are pretty heavy with wedding cake consultations for 2011 brides – especially on the weekends – so plan your visit to us at least two weeks out. Give us a call and we’ll find a time that works for you either on the weekends or during the week. At the consultation you’ll get cake, filling and icing samples. You’ll meet with a cake decorator and they’ll give you an estimate on how much the cake you are interested in will cost. If you want to book at the end of your consultation, that’s great. If you’d rather think about it, that’s fine, too. When you’re ready, you can even finalize things over the phone, or through email. The important thing is not to wait until the last minute. Less stress on everyone involved, right?
